Content Advisory
How We Handle Potentially Sensitive Material
We publish educational material about writing, editing, and literature. Some topics require discussing sensitive or mature themes. This page explains our approach to transparency, context, and reader guidance.
Our Statement
Some of the material on this site was created in a different historical and cultural context. It may include language, themes, or perspectives that are outdated or inappropriate today. We provide it for its literary and historical value, while acknowledging that certain content may be uncomfortable or offensive to modern readers.
What You May Encounter
- References to violence, war, or injury (historical or analytical, not graphic)
- Discussion of discrimination, slurs, or biased language in historical texts (clearly contextualized)
- Mental health, self-harm, grief, or trauma in literary analysis
- Sexual content or adult themes in literary discussions (non-graphic)
- Strong or offensive language within quotations (marked and minimized)
- AI-generated or archival imagery that may depict distressing scenes (disclosed when used)
How We Label Advisories
- A small badge appears on listing pages and a fuller note is displayed on the content page when advisories apply.
- Notices are brief, plain-English, and actionable.
Age Guidance
Our content is intended for a general audience aged 13+. Educators and parents/guardians should review topics before sharing with younger readers. We avoid graphic depictions and provide context for mature themes.
Editorial Standards and Moderation
- Context takes priority over sensationalism; unnecessary detail is avoided.
- Quotations containing slurs or strong language are marked and used only when essential to analysis.
- We do not host public comments. To report issues or suggest improvements, use our Contact page.
